"Our Creature Comforts" first rejection
A local friend and I decided to do an exhibition together this past fall. We created an entirely new body of work for the show and titled it, "Our Creature Comforts" (www.ourcreaturecomforts
As a result, we started to hunt around for alternative venues to hold future showings of our collaborative exhibition. Today, we received our very first two woman rejection from a well known
"Hello Artist,
I want to thank you for answering our call for artists for the upcoming 2007 gallery season. This being my first review as curator of the gallery, I was surprised and pleased with amount of talented artists that applied. The two judges that helped me with the review process both commented on the fine caliber of artwork reviewed.
We had around a hundred applications and could only select 10 artist for solo or shared exhibitions, it was a difficult task. Unfortunately, we were unable to place your work into exhibition this year, but I hope that you will submit again next year. I also hope that you will come to the gallery and check out our shows that change every month with the first Saturday of each month being the opening reception (4 to 7 pm).
Again thank you for your submission, I appreciate the time you took to prepare it.
Curator"
I have to admit that this is one of the best rejection letters I've received. Although our chances were good given 1 out of 10 or less people were selected, perhaps we just weren't what the judges were looking for this time around. No worries, we have another 8 proposals out there for the show.

Yeah, that seems fairly friendly and even invites you to "try again"...of course, not before it plugs the gallery and the next opening--maybe figuring you're not a starving artist and maybe a secret art-buyer...
Good read! and Good luck!
